RAN A 2000 FOOT REEL OF NITRATE… A SPECIAL SHOWING OF A FILM MADE OF OUR LITTLE TOWN IN THE MID 40′s. BOSS WAS A LITTLE PISSED WHEN AFTER SHOWING THE FILM AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NITRATE AND EXPLAINED WHAT THAT WAS. THERE WAS A SMALL SPOOL THAT WAS ALSO THERE AND WAS UN-PROJECTEABLE… I PLAYED WITH THAT TO SEE IT CHARACTERISTICS AND WHEN LIGHTING A STRIP AND WATCHING IT BURN LIKE A FUSE…LIT THE TAIL TO THE SPOOL… DID’NT SEEM TO BURN VERY VIOLENTLY ALTHOUGH IT DID BURN. I WORKED IN THE BUSINESS FOR ABOUT 22 YEARS AND HAVE TALKED TO SOME OLD TIMERS AND HEARD SOME HORROR STORIES…..

Once we looked at them more closely, we did find they were labeled as safety film. We purchased quite a few of them and have a small collection of some odd old movies now. We sold several on ebay, some were quite valuable!

I’m curious if you did find some Nitrate films. It should be added, the is NO 16mm Nitrate. Almost all Safety film will say Safety along with other edge coding. Most Nitrate will say Nitrate, but not always.

Thanks for the review. We found some old files for sale and think some could be old enough to be Nitrate film, my knowledge on them was somewhat limited so I came online to do additional research. I really enjoyed the piece about the movie theater and the steps they took to mitigate the risk of fire.
